I have recently become aware there are plans to build a waste processing plant on Coronation Drive in Scarborough.
Although the site itself is zoned heavy industrial, it is surrounded by quiet residential neighbourhoods that would be severely disrupted by the truck traffic that would result, as well as noxious gases and disgusting smells on a 24 hour, 365 days per year basis.
The proposed operation would include 20 times as many trucks than was turned down in a proposal for the Highland Creek Treatment Plant, located in the same area. The proposal also plans to handle 900,000 tonnes of wet rotting waste per year, which is 6 times as much as the entire City of Toronto generates.
This proposal is being quietly pushed forward, since it would obviously receive overwhelming opposition if people were aware of it. I will bet you would not want to live near there. Some houses will be only 200 metres away !
This proposal is inappropriate for this location and should be considered elsewhere.
