I am completely against the unecessary GTA west freeway for the following reasons:
*urban sprawl
*induced traffic
*increased traffic congestion
*loss of farmland
*reduction of greenbelt
*loss of greenspace
*extremely expensive to build and maintain (waste of tax dollars)
*destruction of the environment and natural habitats
*loss of businesses and homes
*increased greenhouse gasses
*inducing automobile dependency
*worsening the climate emergency
Look no further than any major US State or our own backyard (the GTA) which prove that new freeways and freeway widenings do not alleviate traffic congestion. This freeway would be a waste of tax dollars.
As a professional in the Transportation Engineering / Planning industry I strongly recommend implementing tolls on existing freeways and investing in significantly improving public transit. This would result in a significantly more efficient transportation system and would be much more cost effective.
