In regards to the proposal to expand the live capture of wild raptors by licensed falconers I think the plan is an excellent idea.
I am a Hunter Education instructor in Ontario who has been teaching the program for 14 years now. In my years teaching the course I have had 3 students take the program intent on becoming licensed falconers. All three of my students have followed through and become licensesd and now own birds that they hunt with. I have had the good fortune to see one of my former students hunt one of his birds and also gave him permission to try to trap a bird on our property (he was granted permission to trap a bird but was unsuccessful , not for lack of his trying). Falconry is a fascinating form of hunting and a rich herritage practice that should be encouraged and promoted in any way that we can. I applaud the proposed plans to expand the live capture of wild raptors by licensed falconers. This proposal will go a long way to ensure that this important practice sustains itself in the present and grows itself in the future too.
