I have lived in close proximity to the existing processing facility at the intended address for this current proposal. I can tell you that the noise during the day is constant and I look forward to the evenings and weekends when the operations cease. I could not imagine the facility operating with increased activity, let alone, 24/7 operation. It would become a constant nuisance to the residents of the community. A facility that requires this level of intense operation would be better suited further away from residential communities.
I am also very concerned about the increase of emissions from these facilities. I work in the waste management industry and have experience managing municipal complaints from smaller anaerobic digesters. They are notoriously difficult to establish a working balance of the proper materials necessary to keep the digester operating in proper conditions to limit emissions releases; especially at the outset of operation. Again, a facility of this magnitude would be better served further away from residential communities that could be impacted by the unintended release of excess emissions.
Odour is also a concern. The community is already effected by the odours created by the nearby expanding municipal sewage treatment facility. Some days the odour is so bad that you do not want to go outdoors. A further increase of odours in the community would dramatically affect the community members ability to enjoy the outdoors. Also, the public would be further deterred from visiting the many nearby parks. A facility of the size should be planned further from residential dwellings.
Health & safety concerns are also alarming given the immense abount of flammable gasses being held under pressure. Please find a better locations for this facility that will better serve the people of Ontario.
