I have scanned the draft of the proposed regulation RE: blue box recycling. I may have missed a great deal. As someone that drives to the dump with garbage, recycling and organics during the winter months, I have some concerns. Styrofoam is one. The big stuff used for packaging, not the small meat trays from the grocery. In Muskoka, it goes to landfill which makes me sick. Every single thing that is shipped from Wayfair, etc. is packaged in this dense material. We need to explore alternative packing materials or ways of recycling this horrid stuff.
Is anyone focussed on recycling fluorescent tube lighting? Large commercial sites and high rise office buildings just trash them. There is a cost to sending them to the very few places that recycle and capture mercury. These should be prohibited inside this 2023 legislation or soon thereafter. Long overdue.
Very pleased that manufacturers and producers are being targeted. Costco suppliers’ packaging is hideous and I Email often with this gripe and don’t shop there much anymore. Hit them hard enough and they will respond. Good luck!
