The proposed legislation being considered is flawed in so many ways.

It should not be allowed to proceed as considered.

I run an e-bike and "larger e-bike" sales and service shop. It is a small green, environmental business that will be negatively affected by this proposed legislation.

The primary stakeholder, the current user of larger e-bikes, who will be affected most by this legislation, was not even consulted in the process.

One might even think that this legislation is an attack by enforcement on vulnerable low income people in this province.

Many larger E-bike operators fall into a segment of the population that is considered low income. They fall into a category of traveler who would not be able to obtain an M license under any circumstances, mostly because of lack of income, but also because of lack of government infrastructure to efficiently certify existing "larger e-bike" drivers.

This will create a situation of making all larger e-bike riders, who cannot meet this new hurdle, unable to drive to work or shopping, or the hospital, or anywhere else that they normally are able to get to.

There has to be a better way to achieve the desired result of "ensuring the safety of larger e-bikes mixing with pedestrians and other vulnerable road users."

There are so, so many users of e-bikes who drive larger e-bikes, weighing as much as 120 kg, that drive at 32 kms max or less, and pose a miniscule risk to road safety. Many of these people rely on their e-bikes for all their transportation needs, and will not be able to afford to switch to a smaller e-bike, or license or register their larger e-bike.

I know we are in the middle of a pandemic, and this should be the last piece of legislation to be considered. Even after this pandemic is over, this proposed legislation should be tossed.
