I am absolutely appalled by…

I am absolutely appalled by the high number of MZOs that have been issued over the last year or so. MZOs are by their very nature anti-democratic, so they should be used only in extreme circumstances. I live in Stratford where the construction of the Xinyi glass plant has been proposed, and I am extremely concerned that an MZO was granted despite this development not having been debated in any sort of open manner before the MZO was requested. There are many unanswered questions and concerns about the potential environmental impacts of the Xinyi glass plant: the exact amount of greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants, the destruction of excellent farmland, the high use of water in times of possible drought, and more. In addition, there are serious concerns about having a factory that has close ties to the Communist Party of China in our city and province.
