DO NOT PASS THIS PROPOSAL - in this time of crisis the Ontario government should not act unilaterally to accelerate development. Community consultation is required and necessary in these times. There are currently no plans to address or ameliorate the housing crisis in Toronto, which COVID has accelerated. Since the March 15 2020 lockdown, the city of Toronto has seen mass evictions and encampments by many of those who prior to COVID were already struggling to pay rent. That the ministry should continue as business per usual without understanding the needs of the people will only worsen the situation and waste valuable resources to address the housing crisis. What is required is a moratorium rather than an accelerated proposal, to meaningfully and diligently plan for development needed in a time of a housing crisis.
