I have many concerns about the proposal that provides enhanced authority to the Minister in regards to zoning orders. I believe that the local government and community should have input and be included in the planning of new development. The importance of affordable housing is paramount and is something that needs to be addressed at the local level. A zoning order can be vague about exactly what type and amount of affordable housing is part of development and whether the community is really benefiting. It seems to be misleading to state affordable housing is the reason for development when only a small fracture of the housing indeed will be affordable. In addition, the idea that Heritage properties are not carefully preserved is very upsetting and every effort is needed to prevent quick demolition of historical buildings. The unwillingness to have community involvement is truly troubling and should not be promoted.
