Thank you for this opportunity.
1. The first step is to preserve the Greenbelt as it is now, The 413 highway is going to eat up wetlands and farmlands. This area is the headwaters for our rivers and drinking water. It is the habitat of many, many plants and animals. Salt and petroleum products such as asphalt (it breaks down) and oils degrade the water, air and soil. The Belt mitigates flooding. That loss of land can't be compensated for with a bit of green here and a park over there.
2. If you want to achieve what the Greenbelt has achieved, include those green spaces and parks that you are contemplating as conservation areas to boost what the Greenbelt is doing. How long can we continue to pave over and build on acres and acres of wetlands, farmlands and forest? Call these pieces of land the Ford Protectorate.
