There is lots of mention of support for far north airports; however, due to Covid all of the airports in north are having difficulties with operating and capital expenditures. Please review this option to help them keep operating. We need them post pandemic.
In terms of rest stops and rest areas we need many more sites on HWY 11 and on Hwy 144 and Hwy 101 – The Timmins to Chapleau region needs this as well many transport firms have mentioned this in our focus groups - We also need more passing lanes on these roads and pull over areas for safety reasons especially on HWY 144 – resurfacing also needs to be done in Timmins on the connecting link and HWY’s that were downloaded to Timmins need to revert back to the province.
We also need the Ministry to look at working with their colleagues in Government. Insurance for large transport truck drivers is very difficult to get for anyone under the age of 25 it is impossible and the prices are extremely high rising the costs of business and trade. This needs govt pressure to change.
It would be nice to have passenger rail back in Timmins and actually have a station in Timmins not Cochrane that defeats the purpose of the train. Expanding industrial rail sites in the north is also recommended -It would be nice to have a rail line from Timmins to Chapleau.
