Haldimand County is in receipt of your letter dated February 17, 2021 regarding the above noted subject. While the County is not impacted by or within the identified areas of the Greenbelt (current or proposed), we view this consultation process as a positive step to balance environmental protection with other priorities, including economic development and infrastructure. We are also pleased to see the Province undertaking broad and inclusive consultation to ensure all key interests are considered.
In terms of specifics on the matter, Haldimand County does not have any request or proposal to remove or add lands or make changes to the existing policies of the Greenbelt Plan. That said, we do support the Province’s proposals to grow the size and further enhance the quality of the Greenbelt, with a priority of:
i. A study area of lands focused on the Paris Galt Moraine, which is home to critical groundwater resources; and
ii. Ideas for adding, expanding and further protecting Urban River Valleys.
Haldimand County is also in full support the Province’s principles for growing the Greenbelt as articulated in the ERO posting.
