It is not acceptable that a Minister’s zoning order would not have to be consistent with the Provincial Policy Statement. How can the Province's own planning framework and policies not apply to the Province's own decision-making and powers? Also, how can the Province give itself authority to make retroactive changes so that any existing Minister’s zoning order never had to be consistent with the Provincial Policy Statement? What is the legal basis for this?
This is the definition of hypocrisy, no matter where one stands in terms of political party or beliefs, or where one stands on a specific issue or development. This is absolutely not acceptable from a planning or legislative perspective.
