I strongly believe that Schedule 3 of Bill 257, an amendment to the Planning Act, undermines the rights of the citizens of Ontario to have a say in how our land is used and more importantly protected.

We have the opportunity to learn from some of the poor choices made in the past with regards to development and land use. The future holds our chance to listen to the science; plan for the generations to come; give hope for clean air and water; and, reverse some of the climate change damage that we have created.

We are an intelligent, creative, and innovative province. I encourage the use of these skills in all areas of land-use planning when development needs to occur, such as retrofitting, redesigning, and re-using existing structures or land to achieve goals. Clearing and paving should not be a solution.

Schedule 3 of Bill 257 needs to be removed in order for better, forward-thinking, intelligent planning to occur in this beautiful province of Ontario.
