Schedule 3 of Bill 257 is so undemocratic that is it surprising that elected officials are even considering passing legislation that would remove environmental and heritage protections enacted over many years by elected officials.
It would allow one person, not members or the government in power, to decide how to zone a particular parcel of land.
There would be no public consultation, no hearings in the legislature and no chance of public appeal.
It is dangerous to allow one person to make decisions for which they have no accountability.
Schedule 3 undermines the very basis of public planning in Ontario. Municipalities should be outraged by the proposed legislation.
Schedule 3 undermines the support for heritage conservation and environmental protection which the Provincial Policy Statement provides.
Schedule 3 undermines carefully planned environmental protections across Ontario.
It should be completely and utterly removed from this proposed legislation.
The attached file shows that my views are supported by 120 organizations across Ontario.
