I am fundamentally opposed to any procedure which retroactively removes government responsibility.
In particular, I am strongly opposed to the ways in which the government is applying the use of Ministry Zoning Orders (MZOs) . They were never intended to be used as a vehicle for development and expanded urban sprawl.
There are many wise reasons for protecting nature in our province, and for protection of agricultural land. Habitat and the relatively small acreage of good farmland left are protected by law, and should absolutely not be accessed through MZOs.
The attempt to do so in Pickering was appalling. The use of MZOs is ethically wrong, if not according to the fine points of the law. The entire issue is very much in need of judicial review.
I do not support removing MZOs from present, future, AND PAST responsibility to the laws and environmental/agricultural policies of Ontario.
