This proposed amendment is a blatant misuse of power that panders to developers. It is not in the interests of the public at large and only serves to help those who have a vested, monetary interest in the development of environmentally significant areas. Allowing this proposal to go through would threaten public health and safety, the environment, and our democratic rights. It would also set a precedent for other proposals to follow a similar path. It is a slippery slope from here.
Aside from allegedly helping to accelerate the building of affordable housing (even though only 3 out of 38 MZOs issued up to December 2020 were actually for affordable housing developments), no environmental reasoning or other viable incentives have been given as the backing for this proposal.
Cancel this proposal. Stop putting development above the environment and therefore your citizens.
