The greenbelt expansion is crucial to the area of Brant County where I live. Farmland has already been reduced by urban sprawl, and the class 1-3 lands must be protected in order to ensure future food security.
In addition, the watershed of the Grand River, starting from its smallest tributaries, needs to be protected for future water needs, and also for preserving wildlife diversity in our area. I would like to see a "bluebelt" protected, to retain the health of the natural resources in this area.
Another danger for us is possible aggregate development, and I would like to see farmland and natural features protected from that threat.
To protect these lands from future desecration, I would like to see no separation between the existing greenbelt and the proposed area in Brant County
I believe that there is enough land available within the existing boundaries of urban settings to accommodate future population growth. The planning needs to include all available brownfields as well as creating more density within the settlement areas.
Future generations will thank us if we protect our ability to live with the natural diversity around us, to have abundant and clean water, and to ensure there is enough viable farmland to provide us with food security and sovereignty.
