I support the proposal to repeal three sets of legislative provisions in the Electricity Act, 1998 (EA) and the Ontario Energy Board Act, 1998 (OEBA) that promote and prioritize renewable energy generation projects - that prioritizing renewable generation is no longer appropriate.

As noted, Ontario already, with hydroelectric, has a largely clean and renewable power base. Massive wind turbines and the current approach to large scale sprawling solar energy plants which require hundreds upon hundreds of acres of land won't even begin to replace the nuclear energy production. As well, the past approach of constructing these large scale wind and solar energy facilities without assessing their cumulative impact upon the landscape failed to understand the vast negative environmental impacts these facilities have caused.

Unfortunately, reduction of energy use has ceased to be one of the key concepts in Ontario's energy plan. It has been said, the renewable energy frenzy was really more of a push to get people to use more energy because of the economic incentive for private companies. Now, the citizens of Ontario will be paying for this for a long, long time.

Buildings are going to have to reach net zero by the 2030's and they will be doing it by having a building's energy use minimized to the point where renewable energy produced by the building will balance it. This is where more renewable ‘off grid’ energy will play a positive role through building and urban design.
