Climate change is the most important issue facing humanity today. The disruption of our climate system by emission of greenhouse gases threatens to reverse every gain made by modern society. Wars will be fought over it. People will go hungry. Refugees will cross borders as Earth's life support systems begin to fail. And Canada will not be spared.

Carbon pricing, including cap and trade systems, are among the most economically-efficient policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This is essential as it creates jobs in efficiency and clean tech sectors that are necessary to position Ontario and Canada as leaders in the global movement away from fossil fuels.

If the government eliminates the cap and trade system and fails to pursue meaningful climate action, make no mistake: Your children will curse your selfish, shortsighted legacy. You are doing so against the will of the people, and you are dooming Ontarians to following, rather than leading, a transition that every expert agrees must urgently happen to ensure a safe, sustainable future.

I am strongly opposed to the cancellation of this cap and trade system. This bill must not pass.
