I'm very disappointed that the provincial government has decided to undo legislation related to cap-and-trade. I believe that the role of government is to regulate and legislate initiatives that are of relevance to the public, particularly when such initiatives are not commercially attractive (ie, unlikely to be undertaken in the private sector) and when the benefits may not be immediately obvious (ie, attempting to mitigate the long term affects of unfettered climate change)
Individually, the amount of money that will be put back into Ontarians pockets by reversing cap-and-trade is minimal. And while I can appreciate that there are those for which every penny counts, the problem is that we're collectively sacrificing long-term vision in favour of short-term gain. Indivually, we cannot hope to make the same impact re: environment that a province-wide program like cap-and-trade can achieve.
Thank-you.
