According to this report prepared by the Southern Environmental Law Center, carbon emissions from the DRAX power plant in the UK are and will remain, significantly above the UK’s emission standard for coal stations converted to biomass of 285kgCO2e/MWh, unless a maximum of 8% of the source feedstock is sourced from additional (non-waste) hardwood.

Even without taking into account additional transportation and production costs, stack emissions from the DRAX power station are higher than if the station had continued to be fuelled with coal.
