These funding cuts and offloading of responsibility to the communities is ridiculous. Conservation areas - particularly during the pandemic as one of the few 'safe' activities for families, but at other times as well - are a key educational resource, especially needed in this global changing climate and the increased urbanization of our society. Whilst some municipalities may be able to take on some additional financial burden, I can't imagine most rural areas will be able to, resulting in a massive upheaval in the quality of area management. This is a pure classist move that benefits urban areas with few conservation areas, while negatively impacting rural areas with more conservation regions - which still get visited and used by those living in urban settings! Just doesn't make sense.
