My family has dealt with our local conservation authority on numerous occasions in the past and we completely support the proposed changes to the Conservation Authorities Act.
Over time the conservation authorities have expanded their sphere of influence and developed policies, procedures and programs that extend well beyond their legislative mandate. This expansion of programs beyond their core mandate has come with additional cost to local taxpayers and additional bureaucratic burden to property owners. This has resulted in duplication of services and has all been done with zero oversight or accountability to local residents.
It is time that the conservation authorities focus on their legislated mandate and leave non-core services to local municipalities or other organizations that are better suited for delivery of those services.
