We need tree planting, nature trails and education about nature urgently. These are all core parts of conservation efforts and should remain mandatory. In fact there should not be any activities re-classified as not-mandatory.
Yes, conservation plays a crucial role in managing and mitigating climate change but these conservation efforts also provide opportunities for improved mental health as people are able to get out into nature.
Reducing the scope of mandatory activities will harm the people of Ontario. If anything the pandemic has highlighted the immense value in having green spaces accessible to our population and we should be seeking to expand, not curtail that.
