Town staff are supportive of the conceptual Alliston-Barrie regional bus as part of a Connected Transit System. Based on preliminary data collected as part of the Town's Transportation Master Plan (which is still in draft form), the City of Barrie is one of the strongest origin-destination pairs external to the Town.
Town staff are also supportive of the proposed use of Industrial Parkway as a truck by-pass to the Community of Alliston as part of a Strategic Goods Movement Network. Currently, the Highway 89 connecting link passes through Alliston, including the downtown core. Industrial Parkway is already signed as an alternative voluntary truck route on Highway 89 and along Industrial Parkway. Town staff would be supportive of establishing Industrial Parkway as a mandatory truck route for non-local truck traffic to reduce the amount of truck traffic in Alliston. Town staff, in conjunction with the County of Simcoe, are currently in the process of improving signage along Industrial Parkway to improve voluntary compliance with the alternate truck route.
