Strongly feel that all diesel powered vehicles and equipment should be inspected and require a safety.
I see so many light, medium and heavy duty vehicles that have been tampered with daily on the roads. Light pick-up trucks under 4500kg equipped with diesel engine should be part of this program as well. When you look at how many light duty trucks there are on the road and how easy it is visually determine that vehicle does not comply with emission standards. I see it daily, large exhaust, black particulate soot pouring out of the exhaust systems when throttle is snapped, turbochargers screeming at idle at stop light, exhaust stacks blackened with soot, front of trailers covered in black soot...
If we are concerned about the environment then all vehicles light, medium and heavy duty need to be compliant.
How is construction equipment going to be checked? New construction equipment now have emission control systems - how do ensure that they are compliant as well . How do you ensure that they do not operate with tampered emissions systems?
