I do not support the proposed amendment. The Endangered Species Act is intended to protect at-risk species. The scientific advisors have identified an expanded list of species that qualify for protection. Now, it is the responsibility of the Ontario government to implement protection for each of those species. The amendment has been proposed to make life more convenient for proponents, contrary to the provisions of the Act. I urge you to set the amendment aside, and focus resources on implementation of protection for the species that have been identified by COSSARO.
