I work as an engineer at a manufacturing company where I am responsible for the cap and trade reporting. I was disappointed to discover that the current government decided to cancel the cap and trade program. This program was to provide much needed funding for businesses to adopt green technologies and would in turn make them competitive with other jurisdictions. The company I work for was looking into projects which would "green" our business, but since the cap and trade program has been cancelled, there is no more interest in these items. The government has yet to propose an alternative program which would promote the reduction of greenhouse gases. More personally it is very frustrating to have gone through a lot of administration and red tape to qualify for the program and then have it cancelled with NO compensation whatsoever. The compensation protocol is pathetic and not nearly enough; in my opinion it disregards companies and industries that have complied with what was required through no fault of their own. The cancellation is short sighted, in the long run our environment and families will suffer the consequences.
