I am in favour of the proposal to have Ostrander Point Crown Land Block and Point Petre Wildlife Area, on the South Shore of Prince Edward County, designated as conservation areas.
The South Shore is one of the last under developed areas of Lake Ontario. Varieties of plants, animals and birds make it their home.
The area is known for birding, being on the flight path of birds migrating each season. The South Shore is also home to 41 species at risk, as well as a stoping area for Monarch Butterflies on their migration. The South Shore has a rich biodiversity. It deserves to be protected.
These special lands will have permanent protection by being designated an Ontario Conservation Area an will provide green space for future generations. Families will be able to enjoy nature first hand. It will also provide protection to birds, animals and plants.
