The proposal to add up to 4 dwellings where only one is permitted puts growth and development in the hands of individual home owners. Currently developers are almost exclusively supplying the growth we need to house our future population. Further, this type of intensification should be considered province-wide as small towns and rural communities also need to accommodate a growing and changing population. Allowing the permission in the zoning by-law removes one barrier to redevelopment but investment will also need to happen for water and wastewater systems, transit, parks and community centres to accommodate a growing population.
