I am not against gentle density increases, but I do not agree with proposals which radically alter the character of an established neighbourhood. For example, I would welcome proposals which
utilize older buildings, perhaps by changing their function from industrial or commercial, to provide housing. This is good for the environment and also preserves the nieghbourhood character. I do not support proposals which "insert" multi-unit, mid-rise buildings into established low-rise, residential areas.
Further publicity should be provided about home sharing which could increase density as well as reduce the need for retirement residences and even nursing homes.
Co=operative housing should be encouraged. Possibly subsidies could be given to such projects.
More housing should be encouraged above commercial establishments along main thoroughfares. Perhaps some height increases could be permitted to accomplish this. Hopefully, the streetscape could be largely preserved as properties are revitalized in these areas.
