The cap and trade system was designed to help this province reduce emissions for carbon levels in our air and consumption of fuels producing those carbon levels. As far as I am aware this goal was being accomplished. The new government’s bill does not present a scientific or credible way of continuing these reductions in order to meet any goals with respect to carbon level reductions. As a citizen of Ontario I am finding this very concerning as my ability to breathe, drink clean water free of mercury and other chemicals is not improving with fewer regulation. Unless this government can prove that it will be able to collect data which will demonstrate similar reductions or better then my safety and health is at risk. As far as I know the data will be nonexistent if emissions are not curtailed by this government. I as a taxpayer and citizen want to see emissions reduced and consumption of carbon emitting fuels and chemicals reduced. Those producing and consuming these fuels should pay for this destruction of our environment. The government’s role is to find and support clean alternatives for the citizens of this province and to meet the targets set out by the Paris accord for continued existence on this planet and this province. Subsidies for fossil fuels should end and reinvested in cleaner energy sources. This province can no longer afford to refurbish nuclear plants and should fund more sustainable sources of energy production. Thus creating new jobs in the province for future generations.ontarians deserve better than what governments have done in the past and create better futures for us not worse.
Thank-you.
