If the government of Ontario is serious about lowering electricity costs for families. The home retrofit program and its dedicated revenue stream from cap and trade was a brilliant and cost effective way to do so.
Millions of Ontarians live in buildings that are 50+ years old. These buildings are extremely expensive to heat and cool because they have little or no insulation and obsolete windows and doors.
Rather then an ongoing tax payer funded subsidy on electricity that represents another ever expanding costs to government that must borrow to pay for it. Putting new insulation and windows in homes is a one time defined expense to the government with permanent benefits of slashing home energy heating and cooling costs that many people struggle to pay.
Please consider retaining the home retrofit program. Everyone should have a warm place to live during our long cold winters.
Thank you
