This is wrong, the greenbelt is needed to preserve the ecosystems in Ontario. Changing the greenbelt sets a dangerous precedent. While this time it may seem acceptable because we are adding new land to the greenbelt in addition to removing it, the precedent of this change would allow for more removal in the future. Wildlife migration paths and flood mitigation are important roles played by the greenbelt, and by removing land we endanger the environmental health of Ontario. Removing land from the greenbelt is short-term thinking, any environmental policy should be made considering the ramifications decades from now. There are plenty of young people in Ontario who will feel the consequences of shrinking the greenbelt.
