I support the addition of the Paris-Galt Morraine to the Green Belt.
I oppose the redesignations or removals from the Green Belt. Examples of concerns include:
a) the changes in Hamilton (map 9 and 10) are unnecessary to achieve the housing growth targets (as are the 77 amendments to the Hamilton official plan). Hamilton's submitted plan was going to achieve the growth targets in a sustainable manner.
b) the changes in Pickering (map 6) will adversely affect the drainage into the Rouge River, and the ecological goals represented by the Rouge River National Park.
Finally, I oppose the addition of the urban river valleys to the Green Belt. In my view, the protections to urban river valleys in Toronto (for example) already exceed the Green Belt protections. As such, adding these areas to the Green Belt is (at best) smoke and mirrors, and potentially actually weakens there environmental protections (particularly when coupled with the weakened powers of the conservation authorities).
