This proposal is backwards and infuriating. We are so fortunate to have the Greenbelt lands that many organizations have worked so hard to protect. If this proposal is approved, the lives of thousands of animals and the well-being of many ecosystems are at stake.
As residents of Ontario we have watched the lands around our neighbourhoods be flattened, trees torn down, soil uprooted, destroying the lives of countless animals, plants and insects. The consequences are severe, beyond the fact that it is inhumane and living completely out of harmony with the nature we are so fortunate to be a part of. There are coyotes running through streets, being euthanized for no other reason than we forced them out of their habitat. The one saving grace in all of this is knowing that at least there are protected lands that cannot be bulldozed for housing developments. When we destroy these habitats, we are not only impacting the living things within it. We are destroying our planet, piece by piece, at a time when we need to be doing everything in our power to restore it.
There is no doubt that we need solutions to the housing crisis. However destroying sacred, protected lands is NOT the answer. We need sustainable, long term solutions.
