I cannot even begin to understand how the same people who say that Ontario is in a climate crisis can then make a plan to scrap protected environmental areas in order to add more urban sprawl... To say that this is an option to solve the housing crisis is something that seems skeptical to me. The housing crisis exists because people cannot afford housing. Are all of these homes being built going to be affordable housing? Most likely not. So this is going to half heartledy "solve" one problem while adding to another. We need to see better designs for our urban areas which will help to curb urban sprawl, not give up and begin to take over protected environmental areas. What is the point of even having these areas as protected lands if the government is just going to change their minds and build upon them. There are much better solutions than paving over the Greenbelt. I encourage Doug Ford and his party to talk to any urban planning or design student or professional to learn more about why his suggested plan is a terrible idea! Once you develop the land you can't get it back. Please remember that!
