I strongly oppose the removal of greenbelt land for the purpose of settlements. Sprawl in the areas identified is already a burden on healthy living, traffic, and taxes.
The provincial government should instead focus on infill, or other urban planning models that have a history of success. Our provincial leader recently cited the federal government's plan to welcome more immigrants as a reason to open up more area to settlements. Are the areas opened up and the type of housing to be built ideal to support the lives of those new to Canada?
This proposal is short-sighted and motivated by quick financial wins by a few key developers. Facilitate and remove barriers to the construction of the mid-size developments (tri-plex, multi-plex) in existing settlements to encourage prosperity of small, independent construction companies/land-owners and the living standards of the residents of Canada.
