I am very disappointed to hear that Premier Ford and the Conservative government are going back on their promise to not push housing plans into the greenbelt. “I want to be clear. We will not in any way entertain any proposals that will move lands in the Greenbelt, or open the Greenbelt lands to any kind of development" is what we were told a little more than a year ago, and I believed you when you said it. Now it apparently was just an appeasement. This kind of breach of trust makes it hard to give any credibility to future statements by this party.
As to the housing, cutting down trees and public green space to build houses is in no way a bold plan. It is the easiest way out of a complex situation, and shows a shocking lack of vision and problem solving ability on the part of this government. If the numbers are right and our population is to grow as predicted, the only way forward is through densification of existing lands. Toronto wants to be a world class city? Well show them how to do it. This requires solid regional transit connecting dense urban hubs throughout the Horseshoe. This requires apartments and condos complexes that attract and cater to families (e.g 3 bedroom options). And this requires creative and visionary thinking from our provincial government to lead the way on the matter. Endless sprawl is not the answer.
