The proposal lists “proponents” of the proposal to convert Greenbelt into home development. Other than the government, is it possible to get the list of proponents?
The proposal states the equivalent area of land will be allocated to compensate for the land lost? What is the criteria for selecting the equivalent lands? Are they new areas being protected, or is it just classification for communications purposes?
The proposed criteria only considers if the land can be easily converted into housing. However, it does not consider the land’s ecological/environmental value to continue to be part of the Greenbelt. With this logic, any land near developed areas will qualify to be converted into homes. The criteria is extremely weak and self-serving.
Even according to this criteria, there was no explanation provided as to why these particular areas were selected.
In short, this proposal seems to lack adequate consideration for the criteria used to convert Greenbelt lands to homes, and lacks transparency about who is behind this push. Further, this is against the explicit policy commitment provided by premier Ford.
