Removing Greenbelts land for development that is not near any existing high-order transit should never be considered.
The housing crisis means building housing in existing neighborhoods, not greenfield sprawl. The province has the power to override NIMBYs. Effects of sprawl are well documented but shortlist is :
overburdened road infrastructure, drained municipal coffers, destroyed productive farmland and ecosystems, and cursed us with never ending traffic jams on North America's largest highways.
The density proposed is wasteful and an insult to the land (Only 50 000 homes for 7500 acres).
To whoever is reading these comments, please do everything in your power to advocate this ends. Develop every parking lot, low rise mall in the GTA, upzone every lot, but no more sprawl.
