Affordable housing does not come in the form of large, single-family dwellings built well outside areas providing easy access to public transit and a concentration of service amenities. Alternatively stated, more concentrated development of multi-family dwellings built in well-serviced urban areas makes home ownership more affordable.
There is really no shortage of 1800+ square foot single family homes in suburban areas. So, continued development in areas like that, with limited access to community transit and services makes zero sense.
Finally, but no less important, it appears the government has yet to disclose the environmental impacts of this change to Greenbelt. This strikes me as a significant environmental - and planning - red flag.
