The proposed changes to the Greenbelt area are not wise. The multiple values of the Greenbelt space for food production, freshwater management, biodiversity conservation, public health and well being far outweigh the short term gain of urban development. Repeatedly academic and government studies note that the value of natural capital cannot be simply dismissed because it is challenging to calculate. The longer term benefit to economic well being of the Greenbelt is evident over decades as part of the triple bottom line approach to governance that acknowledges the equal importance of social, natural and economic capital. They are not interchangeable.
