It is appalling that Premier Ford snuck in legislation to develop the Greenbelt last Friday during the CUPE strike announcement. Doug Ford has again lied to the people of Ontario, as he stated in 2018 that a Tory government would maintain the Greenbelt in its entirety. In the context of climate change and the valuable ecosystem services of Greenbelt forests and wetlands for carbon storage, his plan is short sighted and will have harmful long-term impacts on both the environment and economy, that future generations of Ontarians will pay for. It is disgusting that this is being passed to the benefit and interests of a few greedy developers and without the support from the majority of Ontario citizens.
