This proposal will have irreparable, devastating effects on both human health (physical and mental) and the environment. The continued presence of anthropogenic climate change means that we need to be building denser neighborhoods and preserving the natural systems which treat our soil, air, and water. This proposal goes completely against those principles in the guise of increasing housing availability. If we simply changed zoning laws to allow for more multistorey buildings and to redevelop other low density spaces, we would be well on our way to achieving the supply that we need. Couple this with higher barriers and penalties for real estate speculators and we have made a significant move on this issue.
The proposal being put forth here will incentivize developers to produce the cheapest (and likely ugliest/most cookie-cutter) housing developments with no consideration for liveability, beauty, or environmental protection. This should absolutely be shot down and anybody who thinks otherwise needs to seriously take responsibility for the harms that will occur as a result.
