Although this proposal wants to help solve the issue of housing with the planned influx of immigrants, it seems like an overly simplified solution to a complex issue. How does the proposal consider the environmental impacts? Canada declared a climate emergency in 2019, and the entire world is making efforts to reduce or eliminate negative impacts to the environment. Does this proposal align with the province’s and country’s goals to fight climate change? It doesn’t seem like it, since 1) destroying natural ecosystems and 2) promoting vehicle emissions are both counterproductive to these goals. We need to change the way we tackle issues if we are to fight climate change in a meaningful way, as well as be a good example for the world in terms of environmental protection and immigration. People designed solutions for bringing people to the moon(!) Why can’t we design solutions to bring people to this country without destroying what we want to conserve?
