I’m writing to express my wish that the green belt not be modified or altered from the pre 2021 boundaries. The only acceptable option is further expansion to preserve habitat and water management. In my life I travel between Barrie and Toronto often and see under-utilized land development on major roadways or transit served areas. It stands to reason that this is a common occurrence across Ontario. There is no doubt in my money no that housing the current and future population of Ontario can be achieved through better utilization of the lands currently available.
The greenbelt in Ontario is an achievement not to be understated. However, it really won’t mean much if it just protects land until current development buts up next to it and we just readjust the boundaries to fit old ideologies about growth. The greenbelt should be used to protect land and cause reflection on our relationship with the earth and how we use it.
