I think this proposal is the result of the very short term thinking our struggling democracy is sadly prey to.
There is very limited farmland in Southern Ontario and it is know to be the best farmland we have in Canada. The amount that has already been given to housing developments is already too much. Where will the food that this increase in population come from? We cannot continue to rely upon food shipped from other countries, and should instead support our own farmers and protect our farmland fiercely - we will NEED it in the coming years!
We have a lot of land available in Ontario, and there is not a single good reason to build on our best farm lands nor our ecologically sensitive areas. I suggest government use the indigenous principles of care for the land that feeds us, and consideration for 7 generations into the future in all their considerations.
In fact, you would serve the people of this province far better by exploring a way to set such principals into legislation, to ensure all future development proposals are equally sustainable.
