I am strongly against development in the greenbelt. If additional housing is needed, increase density in existing residential areas. Increased density residential areas are also cheaper to service, as opposed to new areas that require new roads, sewers, power, transit, etc, including periodic maintenance. As a Conservative government that advertises itself as one trying to keep taxes low, encouraging rampant urban sprawl goes directly against that premise.
Building into the Greenbelt isn't something that can be undone and is a permanent change to our surrounding environment. Our development decisions should be based on balancing many factors, looking at what's best for society as a whole both short and longterm, and not just catering to NIMBY complaints.
